October Empties

Empties are rare for me. Usually I'll buy a product, and start using a different one a week later. This is mostly because I either didn't like the product, or I thought it was OK, but I could find better. So to get to finish up a product, for me, usually means it was a winner!


As even finishing ONE product rarely happens, I figured as I'd actually finished 4 products I'd let you know my thoughts on them all.

Hydraluron Serum

I've written a review on this before (here), but this is still a must have for me, and I'll continue to purchase this for the foreseeable future. Usually I don't repurchase the same thing, but with this I haven't felt the need to look elsewhere for a new serum. I've purchased different types of serums (ranging from low to high end) and this is the one I feel works best for me for now.
I have gone without it just to see if I really do need it, and whilst I wouldn't say I couldn't live without it, I do notice a difference when I do use it - especially as my skin is quite dehydrated and lacklustre. I can definitely see it becoming my most reached for skincare product now the days are getting colder, and I've already repurchased this one.

There are so many things I love about this moisturiser. Firstly I've never used a moisturising jelly before, but does have a nice texture and absorbs into the skin quite quickly. The packaging says you only need the size of a pea sized amount, which means it lasts a while. I also really like how it's dispensed: You push down the top and it only dispenses a set amount each time, so you don't take more than you need. It's also more hygienic as you don't need to dip your hands into a pot, like you do with most moisturisers out there. This is a massive selling point for me (second to whether or not it's any good - which it really is!) It can be used without a serum, but it does work really well when used with the hydraluron serum.
Skin Types: Personally, I think both the serum and moisturiser would suit both skin types. Mine is combination and dehydrated, so I can see how it works on both dry and oily skin. It works well to moisturise dry areas (obviously you get better results if you exfoliate too), but it absorbs quickly, so it doesn't just sit on the skin - which is good for oily types too.
I'm 100% buying this again.

Corsodyl Toothpaste

First off I have to say that I'm really not a fan of their slogan 'For Gums That Bleed', and that it's plastered in red on their packaging (it does make me feel a bit awkward when I go to buy this). That being said, I actually purchased this as I've had the worst time this year with my wisdom teeth (to the point where I've had to take high strength codeine tablets), and my dentist actually recommended I switch to this to help. And it really has! I would 100% recommend anyone going through the painful experience of wisdom teeth. It won't help with the pain, but it will help stop it from getting any worse. 
There are a few con's to this, however: 
1. It's taste: When I brush my teeth I expect to feel clean and minty fresh after. One word I would definitely not use with the taste of this product is 'fresh'. It's pretty gross to be honest. But if you can get over the taste, then it's worth it.
2. It's colour: It's a kind of rusty sludge colour (I just keep making this sound better and better, huh?!) and after a while of using it, I feel like my teeth have become slightly discoloured. 
Will I purchase again? 
Yes, but not this particular one. Corsodyl also do a mint flavoured toothpaste, and a whitening one. So I will definitely be giving the whitening one a whirl next! And yes they all have that awful slogan on them, but I'm sure I'll get over it..

Kerastase Conditioner

You've probably seen through my blog or instagram, that I've put my hair through a lot. I went from dyeing it dark, to bleaching the ends for the ombre look, to then having bleach all over (it was nice an yellow for a while...) to now having highlights (I even tried the balayage look for a bit but it really wasn't for me), so I'm sure you can guess my hair is not in the best state. On top of this I've also made the realisation that my last hair cut was 31st December! So I've swapped high street hair care for Kerastase. I've been using the shampoo and conditioner from this range (this range smells amazing by the way), and whilst the shampoo is still going, I've finished up the whole of the conditioner pot (another sign that my hair i just too long!). It's difficult to say if this has made much of a difference to the condition of my hair, as it is dry and not in the best condition. But looking back at all I've put it through this year and with no hair cut to trim off the dead ends, I'm sure it would be in a pretty sad state without it!
Will I be repurchasing? Yes.

What's in my Handbag? Work Edition



I've been meaning to post a 'what's in my handbag' post for a while as I always love these kinds of posts. Anything to do with storage/organising etc, I'm in there. (My boyfriends theory is that it's so I can find new ways to store more useless 'stuff'.. he's probably not wrong!) As the majority of my time nowadays is spent in the office, I thought I would do a work edition of 'what's in my handbag'. I love this bag from H&M, though annoyingly I couldn't find it on their website to link to it. It's very sleek and simple, so it's easy to accessorise with whatever I decide to wear to work.

So without further ado,  here are all the things I keep hidden away inside:

Stationary
I always carry my diary with me, as well as a small note book for writing down ideas for blog posts.  I think this diary is really cute, and it's dateless so you can start it whenever you like. It has both weekly and monthly pages, so It's really useful to keep track of things like blog posts, events etc at a glance, and it's nice and compact too. 
The notebook was only £2.50 from fat face, and I just labelled it using washi tape and my label maker. I definitely need this as my memory is awful sometimes!

Gadgets:
Like most people, I'd feel so lost if I didn't have my phone, and for now I have the iPhone 4S (how cute is my little box background?!) - but I will definitely be getting the Samsung S5 when my contract is up in June. I also carry my headphones with me too. I'm trying to learn a new language, and there are so many expensive programmes around - but there are some really great podcasts available for free that you should check out if you're looking to learn a new language too. I try to listen to them on my lunch breaks.

Beauty:
At work I tend to try and carry just a few essential beauty products with me as, whilst I do make an effort for work, I'm not too fussed about topping up throughout the day. I just bring concealer, powder, eyeliner,  mascara, eyebrow pencil and whatever lipstick I'm wearing that day. I only really use these if I have to give interviews and don't want to look like a complete mess! haha. I also bring a few bobby pins for hair emergencies, lip balm and hand sanitiser. There's also a small compact mirror I got for christmas, which has its own little pouch which I think is quite cute.

Misc:
And finally, the last few random bits - One bad habit I would love to kick is chewing gum. The reason being that they're so full of artificial crap, but I'm a little addicted and so always carry some with me. I also carry my purse (of course), hairbrush, and my Tiny Tea bags. 

You can't see it pictured, but I store all of this within my handbag organiser, which I got from eBay here (I would never find anything in this giant bag without it!).
I always try to carry light, but it never really ends up that way. This organiser helps to stop me trying to jam as much stuff into my bag as I usually do! (though sometimes it still happens)

Hydraluron Review


After reading about this product on Caroline Hirons blog I went straight out and bought this in the hope that it would be the answer to my skins prayers. My skin is very dehydrated so I figured this would definitely help to re-hydrate it and hopefully add some plumpness to my skin.

I saw so many people commenting on how they saw results from using this product almost straight away, so I was disappointed when I didn't see any to begin with. But I persevered with it, knowing that everyones skin is different, however I just didn't seem to be noticing any difference with my skin.

For Christmas I received another serum by REN and decided to stop using this serum in favour of my new serum to see if that worked any better. I noticed my skin gradually looking more and more dehydrated, so I decided to use both Hydraluron AND my new serum to see how that worked, and Im so much happier this second time around.
I apply this serum after cleansing, followed by my REN Radiance Perfection serum, and I then apply my moisturiser on top.

I've realised that Hydraluron had actually been working for me all along, it's just that the improvement was so gradual that I didn't notice it. I've noticed as well that, if I have the odd lazy day where I use face wipes instead of a cleanser, that my skin doesn't seem to suffer as much as it usually would.

All in all I'm really happy with this little tube, and I'm so glad I gave it another chance. It has lasted me a while too, so I don't mind its price tag. When it does eventually become summer I will most likely just use just the Hydraluron alone before my moisturiser, but with the cold harsh weather as it is at the moment the added moisture can't hurt!

Mark Hill Glam Goddess Hot Air Review

One of the main things I struggle with is getting any kind of volume in my hair. I’m pretty uncoordinated so if I’ve never been able to get the hang of blow drying my hair, and can guarantee that if I do attempt it I will hit myself in the head/face with either the hairbrush or dryer at least once!

I've been wanting something like this for a while now, and originally went into Boots to get the BaByliss Big Hair, however I saw that this was down from £59.99 to £28.99. I took a bit of a risk getting this as I'd not heard of this before and couldn't find any reviews either. It would either turn out to be a huge bargain or big waste of money.


The box contains a large barrel brush, as well as two curling wands with the option to use them with or without the clips.
I will definitely be reviewing the curling wands at a later date, but my focus for this review is the brush.
On the front of the box is a QR code that brings up a youtube tutorial when you scan it, which I love. 



The styler works as a hair dryer, so the brush has holes/vents to direct the air flow. This way it blow dries your hair without all the faffing around. I dried my hair in layers working from bottom to top and, as you can see, the small section of hair I have done has already gained some much needed lift.  Naturally the hair at my roots falls flat against my head, so it's great to see a bit of volume there for once!


This is the final result, and it is a vast improvement from how it usually is - I don't have to worry about straightening it after either. 
I have to be honest and say that I didn't expect a lot from this, however I'm really pleased with the outcome and am glad to say this turned out to be a bargain! Before I dried my hair I used volumising mousse, however I didn't apply it to my roots so I'm sure I will get so much more lift if I apply it there next time.
One thing I will warn you though is, if you have long hair, you will need to keep pay attention when you use this as it's so easy to catch your hair in the air vent and rip out a load like I did towards the end. 

I'm really glad I got this, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the curling wands work out compared to normal wands.
