The US Finally Admits Cannabis Kills Cancer Cells

The government did us a great favor by commissioning a research on cannabis to prove that it doesn’t have acceptable usage in medicine. The aim of the research was to condemn the beliefs that cannabis can be used as a medicine or even cure cancer. However, the research backfired by proving that cannabis can actually kill cancer cells.

The team of scientists conducted the research at St. George’s University of London and found that the cannabidiol (CBD) and the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) weakened the brutality of cancer cells and made them more susceptible to radiation treatment.

Studies are showing that with the use of these cannabinoids combined with radiation therapy can lead to “dramatic reductions” of some fatal variations of brain cancer.
“We’ve shown that cannabinoids could play a role in treating one of the most aggressive cancers in adults,” wrote lead researcher Dr. Wai Liu, in a November 2014 op-ed for The Washington Post. “The results are promising… it could provide a way of breaking through glioma [tumors] and saving more lives.”
“Recent animal studies have shown that marijuana can kill certain cancer cells and reduce the size of others,” the NIDA report said. “Evidence from one animal study suggests that extracts from whole-plant marijuana can shrink one of the most serious types of brain tumors. Research in mice showed that these extracts when used with radiation, increased the cancer-killing effects of the radiation.”

This research aided NIDA’s newfound pro-pot position especially because it was revealed during a recent proposal that was introduced to the Congress and the House of Representatives in an attempt to legalize medical marijuana on a national level. The CARERS Act seeks to downgrade the status of marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule II in order to make the federal government more flexible with marijuana being used as an accepted form of medicine.
Additionally, the bill should also remove cannabidiol from the Controlled Substances Act and allow it to be distributed without violating federal statutes.
This new federal research contradicts the schedule I status that was established in 1970 which classified cannabis as having no medical usage, high potential for abuse and being unsafe to use without proper medical supervision.
