Essence Pure Skin Toner & Powder – Review

The thing that caught my eye was the word ‘powder’ written together with the word ‘toner’. I discovered that the powder in it is supposed to absorb oil on your face. This is a good thing because I’ve got a combination skin and in general, most toners tend to leave a tacky film behind that I don't like. So does it really work that way? Read more to find out.

Pure Skin Toner & Powder
The toner with oil-absorbing powder is an ideal and refreshing finish to your face cleansing ritual. It battles unpopular spots and blackheads, improves the appearance of your skin and has a long-lasting mattifying effect. Simply shake and apply with a cotton pad at the end of your skin care routine in the morning and evening.

My thoughts
This product is good value for money in my opinion. Firstly, you get a 200ml bottle which would last you two-three months so to speak. The ingredients on the back say that it has got salicylic acid which is excellent for combination/oily skin as it unclogs pores and inhibits pimples and blemishes. It also has allantoin which is a natural chemical compound that is supposed to soothe and increase smoothness of skin – this is especially good for sensitive skin.

It has a mild scent which smells fresh though it might bother some of you. It also gives a slight cooling sensation upon application which feels nice. I usually use this at night after cleansing. I like to apply it with a cotton pad and I’ve noticed that it really helps chuck out dirt, impurities and even the last bit of makeup.

Honestly, this is what toners do normally but what’s unique is that unlike most toners that I've tried, it absorbs within seconds and keeps my face matte. There’s absolutely no tacky feeling after that. But then I thought to myself if this is keeping my skin matte, it might dry out some parts of my face. Surprisingly, it did not do that. It’s amazing how it keeps my combination skin so balanced. Having said that, I disagree with its claim to give a long-lasting mattifying effect – it really doesn’t do that for me. Overall, I am very pleased with it.

You might like it if…
  • You have combination/oily or sensitive skin
  • You don’t like that tacky feeling most toners leave behind
  • You expect it to keep your face matte after use
  • You expect it to unclog pores; remove dirt and makeup
You might not like it if…
  • You expect a long-lasting mattifying effect
  • You do not like the scent.

My thoughts
Basically, this range is suitable to be applied at night before bed since that’s when your skin needs nourishing and what’s better than to pamper your skin with au natural skin care sans any side effects.

Let me begin with the cleanser first. Firstly, the scent is not as pleasing as the Rose Dust or Whitening Plus Facial Polish. Personally, I would’ve liked something pleasant to calm my senses and relieve stress while I cleanse. Having said that, I absolutely enjoy massaging the rich paste on to my face – it’s quite relaxing. My skin looks clean and feels smooth, yes, but I was hoping that it would add some glow to my face or maybe give me a polished look like Whitening Plus Facial Polish or the Rose Dust does so I am a bit let down. On the bright side, I think this product is most fitting for sensitive skin type as it does not cause abrasion and feels gentle against the skin.

After cleansing, I like to apply Moonlight Drops which is in fact a hydrating toner. It comes in a little 50 ml bottle. The quantity is enough to last you a month – maybe more. All you've got to do is pour 3-4 drops on your palm and rub your hands together. Gently stroke the product from your hands on to your face and let it dry. I’ve got combination skin which tends to get oily in the T-zone but I haven’t broken out with it once. As a matter of fact, I find it to be the best toner I’ve tried so far. Three weeks ago, I got my entire face threaded. I am bound to have awful bumpy breakouts after that. This time, it was different. See when you get your face waxed/threaded, your pores happen to enlarge. Open pores get clogged by dirt and impurities quite easily. I’ve tried icing but that’s just a temporary solution. Nothing soothes my skin and tightens my pores. The Moonlight Drops worked for me like magic. It really is soothing and moisturizing. Not that my skin was completely zit-free but I didn’t break out as badly as I normally do. I noticed a few pimples popping here and there but that was it. I am happy to have come across such a product that works for me.

Overall, I think Moonlight Dust is only so-so. On the other hand, Moonlight Drops has won me over completely.
