The 5 Times You Should Never Take Apple Cider Vinegar

The health benefits of apple cider vinegar are undeniable. This common kitchen ingredient has long been part of natural medicine in treatment of many health issues including arthritis, asthma, eczema, sinus infection, blood loss, fatigue, and many more. However, this staple of every household can also produce a number of side effects, especially in these five situations:

  1. Trouble Swallowing
According to health experts, ACV tablets can lead to burns that can permanently damage your throat and esophagus lining. The same thing happens if apple cider vinegar is taken undiluted. The thing is, the throat and esophageal lining is made of soft tissue, which is easily susceptible to burning when exposed to a powerful acid, such as ACV. People who already take blood thinners or have problems with blood clotting should always consult a doctor first before taking ACV in any form.

The high acidic content of ACV can trigger a series of GI issues such as diarrhea, indigestion and heartburn. If you are using apple cider vinegar for detoxification, you should be aware of these common side effects. However, a number of health experts say that unrefined ACV with a pH level of 5-7 limits these side effects. If you continually experience these side effects, stop using ACV, or at least reduce the dose.

When ACV is taken on a regular daily basis, it increases the risk of tooth enamel damage owing to its high acidic content. Plus, it can cause discoloration and sensitivity in your teeth. Using a straw is a simple trick that can protect your oral health and save you possible complications with your teeth. Diluting apple cider vinegar in juice or water before consumption is also important to reduce the possible side effects. Last, but not least, to avoid tooth enamel damage, brush your teeth immediately after taking ACV.
