Monistat Chafing Relief Powder Gel (as a primer)– Review

A lot of people rave about Monistat Chafing Relief Powder Gel as a primer.

Chafing Relief Powder-Gel
  • Creates a Silky, Invisible Barrier on Skin
  • Relieves Chafing from Moisture, Movement & Shaving
  • For Inner Thigh & Bikini Area
Provides on-the-go daily prevention and relief from chafing and irritation of skin in intimate, delicate areas like the inner thigh, bikini area, under arms and breasts.  Made especially for women, the exclusive Powder-Gel® formula combines the protective benefits of lotion and powder by forming a silky, breathable moisture control barrier to fight friction.  Delicate skin feels healthy and protected from uncomfortable irritation caused by moisture, heat, movement and shaving.  Also helps reduce the appearance of redness that can develop after shaving or waxing the bikini area.  Works with just one application and is gentle enough to use every day.

This product is not intended to treat yeast infections.

My thoughts
I haven’t tested this product for its chaffing relief claims. All I know is that it works as a wonderful base under my foundation. I don’t use it on a daily basis but I can say that it definitely makes a difference by smoothing out fine lines, diminishing pores and extending the wear of my foundation by a couple of hours.

The gel is thick, colorless and odorless. It’s packed inside a tube packing with a flip-top cap which makes it convenient to use. Also, the amount is good enough to last you a long time.

I only require a tiny amount to cover my entire face (love how light it feels on the skin). At first, it may feel slippery but it soon sets to a soft matte finish. Make sure you don’t over-do the amount as it may cause the foundation to slide right off your face. If used conservatively, it doesn't pill. It also quickens up blending and help distribute foundation better. I wouldn’t advise using it under a pressed powder for it could get patchy.

In my opinion, it’s suitable for all skin types except maybe acne prone skin. Not that I have ever broken out with it but some skins do not react well to silicone-based primers.  Nonetheless, I think it makes an effective pocket friendly primer.

You might like it if…
  • It creates a smooth base for foundation
  • It helps reduce pore size and diminish fine lines
  • You use it under liquid foundations
  • It’s odorless/colorless
  • It increases the wear of your foundation
  • It doesn’t make your face greasy
  • It evens out fine lines/minimizes the appearance of pores
  • It makes an affordable primer
You might not like it if…
  • You’ve got an acne prone skin
  • You use it under a compact powder
  • Silicone primers don't suit you

Monistat Chafing Relief Powder Gel costs $7.49 at drugstore.com. I purchased mine for PKR 1050 from Rouge.

What do you think about it? Have you tried it out yet?
