Avon Ultra Colour Lipstick – Review & swatches

The dry winter winds are ruthless these days. And in times like these, a surge of hydration is exactly what we all need.

Avon Ultra Colour Lipstick

My thoughts
Avon Ultra Colour Lipsticks feel creamy, moisturizing and comfortable to begin with. They also have a soft shine to them which makes my lips seem splendidly hydrated. On the downside, the lipsticks do not deliver a rich color pay off as promised – the colors in the tube are awfully misleading. I believe they have somewhat of a medium coverage (require multiple swipes) and the shades do not pop against my skin as they should. This is something that bothers me since I love rich pigmented lipsticks. I suppose the line would appeal very much to the younger throng.

Let’s talk about the shades; I’ve got Knock Out Pink, Toasted Rose and Ripe Papaya. Knock Out Pink is a deep pink with tinge of berry tone to it. Toasted Rose is a nude rosy pink – more like a my-lips-but-better kinda color. Ripe Papaya is a peach with an orange hue.

Honestly, the wear time isn’t the most ideal. The colors last two hour tops. Overall, the lipsticks are not bad. I would definitely steer the teens more towards checking these out. I, for one, am not a fan.

You might like it if…
  • You are looking for a hydrating lipstick
  • It has medium pigmentation with soft shine
  • It’s scent-free
  • The lipstick feels creamy and comfortable on the lips
You might not like it if…
  • You expect a long wear
  • It doesn’t have a rich color pay off as promised

My thoughts
There is nothing wrong about these lipsticks – ok maybe a few things like the shoddy golden packaging and the scent. I do not like the scent and that lingering taste in my mouth. It smells like watermelons – a bitter watermelon to be precise. No I don’t like my lipsticks smelling like watermelons; not my thing. Having said all of that, the lipsticks are good!

I am going to review 15 Hot Pink Rage, 03 Orange Gina and 17 Plumrose. Hot Pink Rage is a bright pink (slightly cool toned) with a matte finish. It gives an amazing coverage but since its matte and feels drying, you might wanna moisturize your lips before application. Orange Gina is a metallic warm orange and has very fine golden shimmer. It feels creamy but it’s not as pigmented as Hot Pink Rage and the frosty finish somewhat enhances lip lines. Also, I have noticed that the color doesn't apply evenly and skips. Plumrose is a pink mauve with a crème finish – my absolute favorite. It applies smoothly, has excellent pigmentation and feels moisturizing.

In terms of longevity, these lipsticks last long which is nice if you ask me. I get about three hours of wear time from Hot Pink Rage and Plumrose and two and a half hours from Orange Gina – or maybe more if I just stop licking my lips every now and then. All things considered, I highly recommend checking these out. Love the intensity!

You might like it if…
  • You expect rich color pay off
  • You expect it last long on your lips
  • Cream finish (17 Plumrose) feels comfortable and hydrating
You might not like it if…
  • Like me, you don’t fancy the golden packaging
  • The scent bothers you
  • Matte formula feels drying
  • Pearl finish (03 Orange Gina) enhance lip lines
My rating for 15 Hot Pink Rage

Senna Fall Midnight Wine Collection – Swatches & a look

Yet another beautiful collection for fall this year by Senna. The Midnight Wine Collection features two distinct looks: Ravishing Ruby and Neo Copper.

The Midnight Wine Collection depicts the true essence of fall/winter. I am in love with the deep berry tones of Ravishing Ruby. Overall all the products have good color payoff, texture and decent longevity. My favorites have to be Cream Lipstick in Ruby, Sheer Face Color in Moonberry and Glow Eye Color in Cordovan Glow.

Glow Eye Color
Beautiful light reflective finish gives buildable coverage that can be soft on the eyes or richly intense. The glossy surface and depth of color and dimension make these colors wearable.

The Body Shop Color Crush Lipstick in 125 Crazy Sexy Crimson – Review & swatches

I am so digging deeps and brights on my pout this season.

Color Crush Lipstick
This luscious lipstick gives a stunning pop of color and rich moisture, infused with a subtle rose scent.

My thoughts
125 Crazy Sexy Crimson is a deep red – ideal for fall/winter and looks absolutely wonderful on my fair medium skin tone. It appears shiny upon application but sets to a semi-matte finish eventually.

I love how it is so moisturizing and has a faint rose scent to it however the pigmentation of the product is such a comedown. It’s not as intense as it seems in the tube which is why I think the coverage falls somewhere between sheer to medium. The good news is, it’s buildable and can be built to full coverage. Since the formula is very hydrating, you need not to worry about your lips drying out. Also, it glides smoothly over lips without highlighting lip lines.

Truthfully speaking, I am not thrilled with the longevity of the formula. It lasts no longer than two hours on my lips. Overall, I think it’s an okayish lipstick; I was hoping for something richer and long wearing.

You might like it if…
  • You expect it to hydrate your lips without drying out
  • You are looking for a semi opaque lipstick
  • It doesn’t highlight lip lines
You might not like it if…
  • It doesn’t last long on your lips
  • You expect full coverage
My rating
3.5/5

My MAC Lipstick Collection – Swatches

I love lipsticks! Till now, I have managed to hoard six MAC lipsticks and intend to get more in the coming months. Since many of you requested that I share swatches of my lipsticks so I decided to post.

Firstly, MAC is expensive in Pakistan. A lipstick that is priced at $15 in the U.S costs us around PKR 2700 ($25). I usually get MAC lipsticks from Agha’s which sells it for PKR 2695 – a bit overpriced I know – though for some reason, I still keep going back to that place. Maybe because it’s near my home so it’s quite convenient for me to pop by and pick up whatever I like.

Anyway, recently I stumbled upon this Facebook page Rouge. They’re selling a MAC lipstick for an incredible price – PKR 2150. I have bought a few things from the store and was totally satisfied with my purchase. They offered to me try a MAC lipstick (which the owner gets directly from the U.S). I can totally stick up for this page. Yep! It’s original in case you’re wondering. Be sure to check out the page.

I will keep updating the post soon as I buy more of these. For reference, I am NC30 in Mac.
MAC Lipstick: Freckletone (Lustre)
MAC Lipstick: Freckletone (Lustre) - Swatch
MAC Lipstick: Freckletone (Lustre) - Applied
MAC Freckletone
It’s described as a neutral peach on the website with lustre finish. Love the shade, not so happy with the finish. It’s sheer and I like pigmentation so you know why I am not a fan. It looks fantastic when paired with deep brown smoky eyes.

MAC Lipstick: Blankety (Amplified Creme)
MAC Lipstick: Blankety (Amplified Creme) - Swatch
MAC Lipstick: Blankety (Amplified Creme) - Applied
MAC Blankety
Blankety is a soft beige pink – my most used nude lipstick. It’s an amplified crème which provides full coverage and lasts longer on me than Freckletone. On its own, the shade looks very bland on me but with black smoky eyes, it instantly turns me from plain Jane to a Hollywood hottie.

MAC Lipstick: Angel (Frost)
MAC Lipstick: Angel (Frost) - Swatch
MAC Lipstick: Angel (Frost) - Applied
MAC Angel
Described as a soft pink, Angel is a frost finish. It doesn’t look like other frost lipsticks. Again, since it’s a nude too, I can’t pull it off alone unless I am wearing heavy eye makeup. My little sister who happens to be a tone or two lighter than me doesn't agree – she’s probably NC20 or 25 and I’m NC30 in MAC. She thinks she can wear it alone and it doesn’t appear to wash out her face.

MAC Lipstick: Ravishing (Cremesheen)
MAC Lipstick: Ravishing (Cremesheen) - Swatch
MAC Lipstick: Ravishing (Cremesheen) - Applied
MAC Ravishing
Ravishing is a cremesheen and described as a clean light peachy coral by MAC. Cremesheen is my favorite finish – it has an excellent pigmentation and texture. I love pairing this up with MAC blush in peaches; it looks so gorgeous.

MAC Lipstick: Crosswires (Cremesheen)
MAC Lipstick: Crosswires (Cremesheen) - Swatch
MAC Lipstick: Crosswires (Cremesheen) - Applied
MAC Crosswires
WOW! Where have you been all my life? So regret not buying it sooner but glad I finally got it. Crosswires a beautiful pink coral – bright and wearable at the same time. It looks so good against my skin tone. It’s probably one of the best shades ever!

MAC Lipstick: Chatterbox (Amplified Creme)
MAC Lipstick: Chatterbox (Amplified Creme) - Swatch
MAC Lipstick: Chatterbox (Amplified Creme) - Applied
MAC Chatterbox
Chatterbox, a bright slightly cool pink, is an amplified crème. I normally keep my distance from blue based pinks since it doesn’t go with my warm complexion but this one proved me wrong. I’ve gotta say, it looks fabulous and I am fan!

Are you a MAC Lipstick fan? Which are your favorites?
