Illamasqua Velvet Blusher in Sleek – Review & swatches

Have you ever heard of a velvet blusher before? Illamasqua introduces its first ever velvet blushers as a part of the new Sacred Hour Collection for fall this year.

Velvet Blusher
Create a flush of intense colour with this long-lasting, matte blusher. The lightweight cream texture delivers a velvet soft cream to powder finish. Apply to the apples of the cheek, or across cheekbones to enhance and define. Build and blend with fingers or an Illamasqua brush for added colour-intensity.

My thoughts
Sleek is described as dusky coral on the website. It is extremely pigmented so make sure to keep a light hand. I like to apply this with my fingers mostly; sometime with a brush. I think the color is very special. I didn't have a shade like this in my stash until now. I definitely believe it would look good with a wide range of skin tones.

The texture on this one is unique and I love it. This little hybrid applies like a cream blush and to my utter amazement, sets to a powder finish without appearing powdery or enhancing dryness. Though it doesn’t feel very creamy when you put your fingers on it but I've had absolutely no issues with blending whatsoever. If you’ve got combination/oily skin type, you might like this formulation a lot since it’s very long-lasting. On my combination skin, it stays fresh for six hours after which it begins to lose some color.

Overall, I love it and I really can’t think of anything that I don’t like about it. It’s weird because that does not happen very often. It’s perfect!

You might like it if...
  • You expect good color pay off
  • It blends easily
  • It applies like cream but sets to powder
  • You expect a long wear
You might not like it if...
  • You think it's pricey

My thoughts
The first time I saw this, I was like 'dang! this is beautiful!'. Freckle is a brown-beige crème mixed with chunky and fine deep blue matte glitter. I absolutely love how it looks on my nails. It's such a unique effect to have. Like always, I've had no issues with application -- it applies fairly smoothly without dragging and dries quick. Also, the formula gets fully opaque within two coats and I can feel the texture on my nails. You can add a top coat if you'd like it to appear more shiny. Overall, I am in love with this! I do think it's one of the best nail varnishes I've tried from Illamasqua.

Illamasqua Speckled Nail Varnish is priced at £14.5. Unfortunately, these beauties were limited edition but you can still purchase them online from ASOS.com or Selfridges.com

What do you think about it? Isn't it gorgeous?
